Reciprocating Compressors

Overview and Application Support

More companies trust their compressor vibration design studies to BETA than to any other company. They like the fast response, practical advice, accuracy and great results.

Multiple units many considerations

The scope of a vibration design study includes the compressor package, see Part 1 below left, plus additional options from Part 2, below right.

Application Support and Design Tips

Part 1    Select Appropriate Pulsation/Vibration Study   Part 2    Additional Requirements for a Complete Vibration Solution

Per API 618, 5th Edition, there are three Design Approaches to choose from, depending upon the reciprocating compressor’s application.

> DA1 Bottle sizing (design typically available in 24-48 hours)

> DA2 Pulsation (acoustical) analysis

> DA3 Includes DA2 and Mechanical Natural Frequency (MNF) Analysis and Forced Response Analysis, if required

Design Apporach Chart

Depending on the reciprocating compressor application, the following vibration studies may be required. BETA can provide these studies on a stand alone basis, or as part of the studies in Part 1.

> Torsional Vibration Analysis

> Piping Flexibility and Stress (Thermal) Analysis

> Skid Design (lifting, loading, dynamic, optimized design)

> Offshore Structural Dynamics (platforms and FPSOs) or Foundation Design

> Small Bore Piping, Bottle Fatigue, Etc.

 Part 3   Other Available Studies

These stand alone studies are available to further improve reciprocating compressor performance, efficiency, and reliability, and to support equipment owners and packagers.

> Compressor Design Optimization (geared to pipeline, midstream, or injection-withdrawal applications). Includes System Performance Model™ for accurate performance analysis across all operating conditions).
